The China Chronicles
8/18/2004
Morningin lequing. we're still exhausted and elated from the day
before. (Hmm, we're in the back now and lots of passengers are looking
over our shoulders. crazy americans.) The drive to the airport showed
us more of a town cleaning up. many people were in the streets clearing
away or rebuilding the town and it warmed us to see the community in
action. We drove to Leqing proper and regrouped in krista's old
apartment. it's the standard chinese model, two rooms plus bathrooms in
a 1950's building. shared outdoor kitchen and stuff everywhere. But
the families were neat, and welcoming. little boy came over with his
family to practice english with us and was interminatble cute. it ends
up that krista is an artist of some talkent, but has been supressing it.
she showed us some of her paintings and drawings and i ended up taking
photos of everyone she could show. there's more to her than meets the
eye. we hope to see if we can find a gallery for her in us, maybe that
would help her with a us visa to visit, and encourage her on her talent.
